I saw this picture somewhere around the intertubes.  Thought it was worth a post.  (Click image for bigger version)

0430091jury1

Just in case you are having trouble reading it:

“Apparently you morons didn’t understand me the first time. I CANNOT
take time off from work. I’m not putting my family’s well being at stake
to participate in this crap. I don’t believe in our “justice” system and I
don’t want to have a goddam thing to do with it. Jury duty is a complete
waste of time. I would rather count the wrinkles on my dogs balls than
sit on a jury. Get it through your thick skulls

Leave me the F—k alone.”

Somehow I suspect this person will not be excused from jury duty, but I do suspect he will be learning more about this so-called “justice” system.

My favourite bit is how he blanked out the word Fuck but left in the bit about counting the wrinkles on his dogs balls. :)

Win!

In 1802 Luke Howard proposed a system of cloud classification in a presentation to the Askesian Society.  He proposed two categories: layered and convective.  That was over 100 years ago but I think it’s time we updated this system to include an additional category “Awesomeness Maximus”.  Clouds that fit into those categories are the following:

cloud_hand

cloud_feather

cloud_bunny

cloud_cross

cloud_dragon

Here is a nice little animation someone did of a couple of transformers having a fight on the kitchen table.  It’s actually really nice animation.

Damn you Global Credit Crunch!  A friend of mine has been bitten by “El Crunchio” and been made redundant.

Fortunately for him things appear to have worked out quite nicely.  It has removed some of the road blocks he had to following a potential change of career, (namely, his current career).

So best of luck to him, if there is anyone who can pull success from desperation it’s that guy.

Nick Veasey uses x-ray technology to create mesmerizing and intriguing art. In a world obsessed with superficial appearance it is a refreshing change to be able to look beyond the surface. Beauty, after all, comes from within.

An amazing video of wall painted animation.  Set your imagination to “stun”:

Kurt Wenner is a Master Artist and Master Architect famous for inventing three-dimensional pastel drawings. Also known as: 3D Street Painting, 3D Pavement Art, 3D Chalk Art, or 3D Sidewalk Art, they are a form of anamorphic art. Anamorphism is usually considered a form of Illusion or Trompe loeil, but is really the logical mathematical continuation of Perspective.

Today I saw a reference to an amazing piece of industrial design called the Q-Drum which I thought was worth a mention.

The Problem: In developing countries access clean potable to water is a huge problem.  Let’s say a community has access to clean water, in most cases it still needs to be transported long distances. The burden of fetching water, invariably over long distances by cumbersome and far too often, unhygienic means, is all too evident in rural Africa.

The Q-Drum Solution: The solution that the Q-Drum provides is to roll the water in a cylindrical container rather than carrying it. It is user friendly and the unique longitudinal shaft permits the drum to be pulled using a rope run through the hole. There are no removable or breakable handles or axles, and the rope can be repaired on the spot or replaced by means available everywhere, such as a leather thong or a rope woven from plant material.

Why Do I Like It?

  1. The design is simple
  2. It’s should be pretty cheap to manufacture
  3. It suits it’s environment
  4. It just works
  5. It is robust
  6. It addresses a really important problem
  7. Design is for everyone, not just iPod carrying yuppies
